Nikita Koshkin |
Russias Finest Guitarist
Nikita Koshkin 's music unleashes
the expressive potential of the guitar to the great profit of composers yet to come. The
ambition of the Russian composer-guitarist Nikita Koshkin in writing music for his
instrument has been twofold: to expand the vocabulary of effects on the guitar; and, more
importantly, to develop means to incorporate these into musical expressions. "From
the very beginning," says Koshkin, "I felt that the guitar could express itself
in many various styles while still being a classical instrument. That's why I like very
much to turn from one style to another reaching diversity with only a touch of the
instrument.
Frank Koonce will join the composer to showcase some of Koshkins duos. Frank Koonce has achieved international acclaim as a performer, teacher, and writer. He holds degrees from the North Carolina School of the Arts and from Southern Methodist University, Summa Cum Laude, and was a Fulbright scholar and performer in Italy.
