Lorenzo Micheli

michi2.jpg (9829 bytes)Lorenzo made it down here to the bay area this weekend, and his performance lived up to every accolade offered by our Portland  friends.  What a talent!  Effortless playing with a musical sensibility far beyond his years.  I can't believe he's been  playing for only 13 years, but then again we are seeing (hearing) this more and more in young players.  He made the old war horses, the Giuliani and Barrios, sound new and refreshing with phrasing, that I haven't heard from any other player.  …I thought his interpretation of La Catedral was much more interesting than Williams’, and I thought JW's was great when he played it in SF.  The rest of the  program was riveting.  He played, as a second encore, the Allegro from Prelude, Fugue and Allegro (BWV998).  I have to say he got more Bach out of 6 strings than Galbraith gets out of 10, in my opinion only.  It was amazing.  He played the whole piece the next day at an informal master class at a local cafe.
