Lawson Rollins, a member of the Triangle Guitar Society until his move North along the I-85 / I-95 axis to Washington DC, has teamed up with guitarist Dan Young. Their group, Young & Rollins, which includes Latin percussion, bass and drums are releasing their debut CD entitled “Salsa Flamenca” on August 15 on Baja/TSR Records. They have a six record contract. Their music, loosely described as New Flamenco, is original compositions, which the Washington Post describes as going beyond the influence of the late Charlie Byrd. Lawson studied with Randy Reed and wishes to be remembered by his mentors in the area, including Billy Stewart, and expresses his gratitude to the Triangle guitar community for their support and inspiration in his early years. Impressively, Lawson also displays his New Flamenco flare in a compilation CD entitled "Guitar Greats: The Best of New Flamenco." alongside songs by Ottmar Liebert, Strunz & Farah, Jesse Cook, Armik, Novamenco, Shahin & Sepehr, Oscar Lopez, and others leaders of the genre. Lawson does journey on occasions to his home in Durham, and perhaps he will grace the area with a taste of his energetic music.
