Prez Sez  March / April 2025

Dear folks, I’m excited by our upcoming April 12 concert by Alvaro Mendizabal. Alvaro’s presence among us is a real testimony to how Duke University, Durham, and the Triangle continue to attract amazing classical guitar talent.

If you haven’t yet viewed Alvaro’s remarkable video, The Sleep of Reason, I urge you to do so. It encourages presenters in the world of classical music to employ guitarists in their programming. I was held spellbound by this incredible businessman talking with perfect understanding of the history of his chosen instrument, with his own beautiful, flawless live performing in the background and foreground. Wowzer! Please treat yourself and come out to hear this highly skilled player and admirable representative for the guitar.

I’d also like to congratulate everyone who performed at the most recent members’ luncheon recital, one of our most memorable so far. And a special thanks to Greta and Hans van Meeteren, who faithfully travel three hours from their home on the coast to attend these and other TGS events! —
