Prez Sez  March /April 2024

Hello, Dear Friends!

Well, as we all noticed, we did get Mak Grgic up here from Columbia, S.C., from his relatively new position teaching at the University of South Carolina (filling the position that Christopher Berg held for around 40 years!) and with his very talented wife, mezzo-soprano Meagan Martin, to perform a fantastic program of memorable and enjoyable Balkan and Slovenian pieces, with the exquisite Five Bagatelles of William Walton and no fewer than all seven dramatic Spanish folk songs harmonized by Manuel de Falla!

The TGS Board and I are very proud of the high quality of our concert offerings this year. Please mark your calendars for April 20 at 7 p.m. for Julian Burbano’s senior recital (see the April 20 program and see and hear him play in a recital for TGS last year in this YouTube video.

Many of our “Gourmet Kingdom alumni” have said they will be serving up some new pieces on April 6, 2024 at noon, so show hungry for good guitar music and fine Chinese cuisine. This will be our third outing.

Folks, we are especially happy to announce that Jake Freiberger has agreed to come on our board as a member at large to help guide us with his insights. Jake has been one of our most loyal donors and has hosted many salon concerts and receptions at his and his wife, Sharon’s, lovely house. Jake is a fine flamenco player, as many of you have heard at the Gourmet Kingdom lunches.

Folks, please take a moment and look at the date of when you last renewed your membership (you create your own renewal date!). If it has been more than 12 months ago, please contribute right now online on our website or send your check to Donnie Stallings, Treasurer, at 105 Cambrian Way, Cary, NC 27511.

Here’s to another great Gourmet Kingdom event and another great concert to cap off a great year!
