Dear
Folks,
Please join us for our next concert on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at 7:00 PM at
The Church of the Good Shepherd at 3741 Garrett Road in Durham, NC featuring one
of the hottest up-and-coming young guitarists in the US, Triangle Guitar Society
member Julian Burbano!
Julian hails from Virginia, where he was
concertmaster of both the Briar Woods Falcon Guitar Ensemble and the Loudoun
Youth Guitar Orchestra. He was chosen as a section leader in the All- Virginia
Guitar Ensemble and was selected for the All-National Guitar Ensemble.
Julian has placed in the Beatty Competition for several years and was the
Overall Winner at the Aguado Classical Guitar Competition in 2019.
Julian
will perform a selection of largely British composers, featuring Britten’s
Nocturnal After John Dowland (1963), Theme and Variations by Lennox Berkeley
(1970); Little Suite for Guitar by Nicholas Maw (1984); and Malcolm Arnold’s
Fantasy for Guitar (1971).
Julian and Randy Reed will also perform Suite
for Two Guitars by R.M. Hartsfield (1993), which was written for Randy and
member Jeffrey Rossman back when they were fellow classmates at Florida State
University. In the composer’s own words: “The Suite for Two Guitars, although
based on a 12-tone row and is essentially atonal, was written in emulation of
the dance suites of J.S. Bach. The Suite was recorded by Reed and Rossman, and
they gave its premiere public performance for TGS in 1990.”
Julian will
end his recital with the first movement of the Concierto de Aranjuéz by Joaquín
Rodrigo (solo version).
So, folks: don’t squander this news! Tell all
your friends and acquaintances to come out and enjoy live, exciting guitar music
April 29th at 7:00 PM at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 3741 Garrett Road, Durham,
and pay what you can at the door.
Reception to follow for TGS members and
family at Randy and Selde’s house in Chapel Hill.
We hope to see you
there!
— “Prez” Randy Reed
