RANDY REED, guitar instructor at Duke University since 1994 and St Mary’s School (Raleigh) since 1997, has performed throughout the United States with additional recitals in Mexico and Canada. Originally from Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Randy Reed holds degrees from Florida State and Southern Methodist universities. Before his appointment at Duke, he was an assistant professor of music at the University of Texas El Paso, and Director of the guitar program at SUNY-Potsdam, New York.
TGS president and co/founder, Randy Reed has finally self published the five book Randy Reed Repertoire Series featuring specially edited versions of classical repertoire and many original compositions. During Intermission please check out the five books on sale tonight.
Randy Reed has performed in most of the venues in the Triangle region and in 2006 performed Lalo Schifrin’s Guitar Concerto Sinfonia Concertante with Duke’s Wind Symphony. Mr. Reed is proud of his former students who are teaching in the Triangle: Chris Boerner, David Richter and Dennis Aberle.
CATHERINE LEGRAND cultivates a worldwide private flute studio comprised of beginners though professionals, while maintaining a busy personal appearance schedule as soloist, recording artist, chamber musician, traveling pedagogue and clinician. Her website, www.catherinelegrand.com, provides information and resources for students and educators on breathing, music performance and pedagogy, creativity and flute-playing. She serves as Adjunct Professor of Flute at Campbell University. With pianist Kenneth Grigg, Ms. LeGrand also tours as the duo Senza Misura. She has three albums in current release. She received her B. M. and M.M. from the University of Cincinnati with additional studies at Temple University. Teachers include Keith Underwood, Paige Brook, Loren Lind, Kyril Magg, Jack Wellbaum and Robert Cavally.
Ms. LeGrand has served as Principal Flute of the Houston Grand Opera, Texas Opera Theater Orchestra, Piccolo of the Lexington Philharmonic (KY), and has performed often with the Houston Symphony. She has also performed with the Grand Teton Festival Orchestra, the West Virginia Symphony, and the Houston Ballet Orchestra. She serves as Principal Flute and frequent soloist with the Superior Festival Orchestra based in Marquette, Michigan. She has presented recitals or workshops at annual events for the Houston Flute Club, the Raleigh Area Flute Association, and the National Flute Association.
DENNIS ABERLE, a school psychologist for Wake Co. Schools by profession, has been studying and performing classical guitar music for more than 20 years. His teachers have included Thomas Catalano, William Zito, and Dennis Koster in New York, and Randy Reed, Ed Stephenson, and Gerald Klickstein in North Carolina. Dennis has also studied flamenco guitar accompaniment in New York with Dennis Koster and Roberto Castellón, and in Seville, Spain with Peter Huijing and the prominent gypsy guitarist, Ramon Amador. Currently, he is studying with the American flamenco virtuoso, Ricardo Marlow in Washington D.C. Dennis is the vice president and program director of the Triangle Guitar Society. Dennis’ classical guitar was built by Guillermo Del Pilar (Bklyn, NY 1979) and his flamenco guitar is by Valeriano Bernal (Algodonales, Spain 2001).
FLAMENCO CAROLINA is a local dance group based in Durham, NC. They teach the art of flamenco dance, perform, and organize flamenco workshops several times a year. They have studied in Spain with various flamenco dancers. They teach at Legacy Studios and Ninth St. Dance in Durham, Harmony Pilates Studio in Apex and in Chapel Hill.
